We’ll be touching down in Kathmandu for three nights after our journey into Bhutan. This is an OPTIONAL extra but well worth your time!
Once a key stop on the iconic hippie backpacking trail of the 1960s and 70s, Kathmandu still hums with that same free-spirited energy.
Between its winding alleys filled with incense and prayer flags, bustling markets, and a blend of ancient temples and modern cafés, we’ll have time to explore the city’s vibrant culture and soak in the laid-back rhythm that continues to draw travellers from around the world.
Including flights to Bhutan
Welcome to Nepal!
A driver will meet us at the airport and bring us to our city centre hotel.
Once everyone is settled we will head out for a group meal.
Meals Included: Dinner
Today we’ll start early with a one-hour drive to Nagarkot to watch the sunrise over the Himalayas.
After breakfast, we’ll explore some of the Kathmandu Valley’s most famous cultural spots, starting with Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 30 minutes from Thamel. Known for its rich Newari culture and architecture, it’s home to the 55-Window Palace, Vatsala Temple, Nyatapola Temple, and the Golden Gate. Next, we’ll visit Patan Durbar Square, another UNESCO site in the heart of Lalitpur, where we’ll see the Krishna Mandir, the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), and the Patan Museum. It’s the perfect place to experience the art, history, and religious harmony of the Malla period.
We’ll return to Kathmandu for the night.
Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch
Today, we’ll dive into Kathmandu’s spiritual heart, starting with Pashupatinath Temple, one of the world’s most sacred Hindu sites. Set along the Bagmati River, this UNESCO World Heritage Site comes alive with pilgrims, holy rituals, and centuries of devotion to Lord Shiva.
Next up is Swayambhunath, or the famous “Monkey Temple,” where prayer flags flutter above the city and monkeys roam freely around the golden stupa. We’ll finish at Boudhanath, one of the largest and most peaceful Buddhist stupas in Nepal, where locals circle the dome spinning prayer wheels beneath the watchful eyes of Buddha.
In the evening, we’ll celebrate our final night in Kathmandu with a farewell dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant.
